Ryan has faith in Trump: Says House can chew gum while White House on fire

All those GOP #nevertrumps are likely banging their heads against the wall yet again.  In Speaker Paul Ryan’s press conference a few minutes ago, he spent more time on the Tax Cuts for My Wealthy Donors Plan than on Trump’s many crises.

Among the pithy quotes via CNN:

Speaker Ryan said he will follow the facts when it comes to the Comey memos. However, Ryan added that he wouldn't rush to judgement and that some people wanted to "hurt" Trump.

"There's been a lot of reporting lately that requires close examination ... we need the facts," Speaker Ryan said when asked about the Comey memos.

"We're going to want to hear from Comey," he added, saying it's"obvious" some people want to "hurt" Trump.

If the memos are true, Ryan said, he will want to know why Comey didn't take action.

As he was walking out of the room, someone asked if he still had confidence in Trump. Ryan paused, before saying yes.

Now, this is at the point where Speaker Ryan truly is starting to look like he has something to hide...even moreso than just wanting big fat cat tax cuts.  Certainly Pence could carry out their directives.  Why does it HAVE to be Trump?

The attempt to turn this around to Comey not taking action is pathetic and very OBVIOUS.  I wish some brave reporter would ask:  “So you think Comey would have had success reporting this to Sessions?  Rosenstein? GOP Congressional Sheep? “

The rest of the Speaker’s comments related to something along the lines of being able to chew gum while helping donors.  I kind of tuned out.

Meanwhile, House Democrats keep trying to find a way to force a vote on an independent commission, as reported byShareBlue today:

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is forcing her Republican colleagues to take a public stand on an independent investigation of Donald Trump’s ties to Russia.

In a letter to the Democratic caucus, she announced that she will be filing a “discharge petition” Wednesday to force a vote on the Swalwell-Cummings bill – also known as the “Protecting Our Democracy Act” or House Resolution 356.

The bill calls for the establishment of “an outside, independent commission to investigate President Trump’s ties to Russia”— something 78 percent of Americans support.

DIARIST’S NOTE:  I want to thank DailyKos for giving me a voice.
